A well-armed America is a safe America

A well-armed America is a safe America

In the solitude of the moment, a woman heard pounding at her front door. The person on the other side was relentless. He was desperate to obtain entry by any means possible. The woman and her nine-year-old twins ran upstairs as this deranged soul broke open the door. He scampered through her home eventually finding her in the attic. As he approached her and the children, she let off a volley of shots from her gun, six bullets in all. Five hit him in the neck and face, the last one missed. He was not dead after five shots. This Georgia woman saved herself and her children last month from this vile human, who was recently released from prison. Is there a prosecution in her future for excessive use of force? Perhaps she will be brought before a judge for not using an appropriate gun on some list in the recesses of Washington D.C. With the Democrats drive to limit guns, preventable rapes and murders mean little to those with an agenda.  The push is now on from  President Obama downwards to circumvent the Second Amendment. Limitations on weapons and ammunition quickly passed into law in New York State after the Newtown Connecticut massacre. Very little consideration was given to the ramifications of this legislation on the state’s populous. Obama, following the New York example, shamelessly used the Newtown massacre as a publicity stunt in his State of Dis-Union Speech for more gun control. The feeding frenzy by the Democrats becomes worse, day by day, as they utilize every means at their disposal to limit weapons by the public at large. Unfortunately, they are not seeking to control the psychos who perform these heinous crimes. Trite as it may sound, deranged people kill, not guns. In Baltimore, knives are becoming the weapon of choice. During the Ravens celebration of the Super Bowl win, multiple stabbing leading to deaths occurred nearby. Knives will be outlawed next, if the Democrats get their way. As the tyrannical regime in Washington becomes more intrusive and abusive having assault weapons vested within the government’s reach only is a very bad idea. This is the road Obama and the Liberals are paving for us. Guns have no personalities, only those who misuse them have. Reduce their chances of obtaining weapons, and reductions in violence will automatically follow. Mark Davis, MD, platomd@gmail.com, Author of Demons of Democracy

Obama's choice: Democracy or Tyranny

Obama’s choice: Democracy or Tyranny

President Obama believes managing America’s economic and social affairs by autocratic rule is an acceptable means to achieve his vision for the nation. Bypassing the Congress to move his agenda along, utilizing Executive edict, is his weapon of choice. In a few days his second term will start, which hints that even more controls to our lifestyles will be forced on us, with his lone signature to enforce the mandates. The range of detriments that Obama can cause by tyrannical orders from the Oval Office is nearly inconceivable. The first of many Executive Orders will be coming shortly as he begins his march towards a gun free America. Using Vice President Biden’s gun control committee as a front, the President will attempt to stifle gun ownership on several levels. The most potent enforcement presently being floated in the media is to inhibit the sale of ammo. An outright ban would be too noxious to the public, so he will perform this miracle in steps. All ammo purchases would have to be reported to a central authority, perhaps a national data bank similar to the one used against physicians. Once this is in place, licenses will be required to purchase ammo with restrictive regulatory structure to keep sales to a minimum. The assault weapon ban will be front and center in Biden’s recommendations, leaving only government entities with these munitions. Finally, national licenses for handguns requiring psychological profiling before purchase will become a reality. Congress and the Constitution are inconveniences to a man who wants to run a one-man show. Many legal issues will arise by Obama’s crude attempts at self-rule.  Though the Second Amendment will be at the forefront of these challenges, an array of legal precedents will come into play. These precedents include established intrastate commerce laws, states’ rights issues, civil rights concerns and prior Supreme Court decisions. In a case that drew national attention, District of Columbia versus Heller, the Supreme Court upheld the right to handgun ownership in its 2008 decision. Though this case only affected District of Columbia residents, in McDonald versus Chicago, the Supreme Court noted in 2010 that the Second Amendment applies to all the states by virtue of the Due Process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.  Rumor has it that Obama was a Constitutional Lawyer for a brief period in his life, yet he must have missed the chapters on the Second and Fourteenth Amendments in his studies. Implicit in President Obama’s reign over the last 4 years is the assumption that he knows better what is good for the nation than the Congress and the population that put them into power. Obama’s Machiavellian approach to rule comes with a price, the limitation of democratic principles. When this occurs, the horrific scent of tyranny pervades the environment in which it was created. A near hysteria has been generated by Obama’s potential use of Executive Order to control gun ownership. His authoritarian approach will fail, but at what cost to the Republic. Perhaps someone in his Administration or the Congress will explain to him that we are still a representative government and not a dictatorship, so far that message has not gotten through to his mind. Tyranny's first step: gun confiscation

Tyranny’s first step: gun confiscation

After the horrific tragedy in Newtown Connecticut, cries for more curbs on private gun ownership were splashed across the media. President Obama seized the moment appointing a gun control advisory panel headed by the Vice President. The President’s superficial aim is to reduce gun violence, yet his greater goal is to remove as many guns as he can from the general population. A contingent of left leaning politicians, their media counterparts and the White House have decided that registering a weapon is not enough. Taking weapons from the good-guys is their answer to the wave of violence confronting the nation. George Mason, the great patriot, said:  “to disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” After each horrific massacre the government has attempted to tweak the rights of legitimate gun owners ever so slightly. Ultimately, Mason’s vision of a society without guns comes to fruition as the bureaucracy dissects the very laws that allow their ownership. Most recent guestimates of private ownership of handguns, assault rifles and other armaments exceeds two hundred million. Andrew Cuomo, the liberal Governor of New York, will attempt to legitimatize gun confiscation through a permit process. Speculated legislation would make criteria for ownership so difficult that only a very small sub-segment of the state’s population would qualify. Cuomo’s remarks came on the heels of media elites such as Ed Schultz calling for confiscation of weapons from “all” law abiding citizens. People will not give up their weapons without a level of civil unrest that would be difficult to quantify at this time. Opposing weapon confiscation is a plethora of organizations with the National Rifle Association in the forefront. Their stance is firm and well known. Government entities, whether state or federal, will find a tidal wave of opposition imposed on them through the judicial process from these groups. In the event courts take the liberal perspective, the suggested civil unrest could become a reality. The irony is many members of government have concealed weapon permits along with those in the media who have attested to their own possession of various weapons. There are many reasons for extreme violent acts with guns and there are even more reasons why psychotics should not have access to them. Government’s goal should be to keep weapons out of the hands of the Adam Lanza’s of the World, not law-abiding citizens. The next move is the government’s, let us hope it is the “right” one.
